Our Sen. Tester steps in it.
Tester said it is more important to find a combination of ideas that can gather enough votes to get out of the Senate - although he is not yet certain it can be done. He also said the bill can’t add to the deficit, even if that means adopting a tax on wealthier people to help pay for it.
“I too am worried about the national debt,” Tester said. “I certainly don’t support taxing the middle class; they pay their fair share already. But I think you are going to have to give something to get something.”
Oops! As Ace notes, that’s you and me, baby:
As has been pointed out six bazillion times, Obama’s plan already envisions higher taxes on the rich and that’s not nearly enough to cover the new costs. So when he’s talking about “you” giving up something to get something, he does in fact mean you, and not some rich people you don’t know.
But wait, that’s not all - Tester also admits the possibility of another massive FAIL.
Tester said he believes that such a bill can move through Congress, but understands many pitfalls remain.
“If the votes aren’t there, you’ll have to say you did the best you could and then you move on,” said Tester.
What? Move on? Move on? Cue the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

The promise that candidate Obama made not to raise my taxes is almost as far out the window as “read my lips”. It’s history, but not quite in the books.

With so much fence straddling, Tester is going to need to see a proctologist to have the fence boards removed. But then again he has the best healthcare our tax dollars can buy.

Tester is adapting. He’s learning the ropes. He’ll soon be Stockholmed, and he and Max will spend sweet evenings together counting campaign cash.
I look forward to the day that we can have an informed discussion about the benefits of progressive taxation (with really high rates on really high income).
I also look forward to single payer, strong labor unions, a limited military, the end of corporate personhood. Mostly, I just endure this place.

Do ya think we’ll have to give all those millions back on that border crossing upgrade?

It can start anytime Swede. You go first. Waiting…waiting …
Guess I’ll just have to keep waiting.

Bring the high rates back. Maybe for once it’ll show exactly how important the produces are.
As for me, I can suffer the blow. Increase my garden on the south facing slope, plant an orchard, develop a couple more springs, trade butchered beef for basic needs.
I pity the leaches, when the host dries up.

Aw, go on. You love the abuse. And, besides, it is the only attention you can get.
