Big deal. You still can’t use the Last button to go between 8-1 and 13-1.
Someone please explain it to me.

Carol, to suffer through the digital change, there is always digitalis. Regarding your button, try reprograming your remote.

I did a partial channel search that looked like it was reprogramming. Doing a full scan now…
Nope, no difference. Still have 8-1, 8-2 etc.
[sigh]

Digital TV problems? No problems here, but that’s because being out in the boonies one resorts to satellite television (Dish or Direct). Dish for me, I like the local channels. I knew there was a disadvantage (oh hell, disadvantages) to living in the big city!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, again having way too much fun with one of your topics Carol. Me bad.

Max is my hero. We had no TV from 1979 to 1997 and because of that our kids were early and avid readers. They both ended up receiving academic scholarships worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to go to a couple highly regarded colleges.
To you parents of 3,4,5 year olds; lose the tube , get rid of the X-Box for a few years and read to them. That will be the best investment in their future you can provide.

We watch local news for weather since I dropped cable and lost the Weather Channel.
I just called KPAX and the 8-1, 8-2 channels is what we get and it ain’t gonna change.
Brilliant. But I guess if I really cared I’d have dish.

Charles:
We noticed the same effect on our children. Both children were reading at the high school level while still in elementary school. (We have over 3400 books in our home. We do not use public libraries.) Both children went to top-20 universities. Both children landed good jobs right out of college. Both children have no TVs in their homes today.
TV has a deleterious effect on clear thinking. Once you get away from TV for a few years, you can easily identify those people whose minds have been muddled from watching too much of it.

While we didn’t turn the TV off we did have rules on what they watched. The best rule was no networks. The X-box still reigns supreme, but both kids received athletic scholaships and the oldest combined his athletic with academic awards.

House. You’re missing House. He’s brilliant. And Seinfeld. Honestly, there’s something to be said for not being too smart for TV.

I don’t miss the cable bill.

Funny, I was thinking of Mark T. when I wrote that, and now we receive confirmation: “There’s something to be said for not being too smart for TV.”
